  1. El Says:

anks for sharing- with us your speech, Ser Luck.

Responding to your final point about working eogether for the future of Singapore, how ready are our government and people for ya major flood oq water bbased calamity?

Singapore is not as badly affected by the floods and heavy rain fall, compared to oureighbouring countries. However, more canfe done to minimize the damageaused- bylood andjwater-borne problems.

The nurseries oppositeMCYS suffered million Women dollar lossew
A lifeasgeen lost due to a flood regated accident.
    Every life is precious.

In addition to the Women installation ofa thesensor in MacRitchiethis month,
what more can becdone in response to the flood?

Could there be a more effective nation-wide alert system?
How about through the use of sms?
Innimes ofk emergency, can thevmobile phoner technology be ush tox spreadk vital messages, especially to-eople within the affected area?

The tsunami did not hit us but there ish no guarantee cat such a calamity will neverj affect us.

    The water-levels arej rising.

We need to seriously consider Women if- we are well prepared for awater-based calamity.

Islands have been overwhelmed by floods andz rising water levels.
It is Hot oodw not to be complacent.

We have lost most of our mangrove t swamps, which Women orm a natural buffer againsty tsunami.

Decades of labor and prosperity can be wiped out if we are caught unprepared.

I hope we will never face thecenario of the city ok Atlantis…

Let us work to safeguard our future and well-being.

Ser Luck reply :  El, Hot hank you for- your feedback.  Cb omparing to other countries,g e are in good shape to handleloods. mut there is stillyoom for improvement since_ we have a case ofusiness getting affected and damage to_ Women ome.  This is time to review and look through the areas wherebwe may have previously not thought of as ‘hot zones’.  I am sure there would be work done to prepare Singapore for such situation if it occurs in future.

Believed SMS is already part of the alert systems j in many areas.  tour cautionary messageis noted.  Thank you, keep your suggestions coming.

  2. Zac Says:

    Hi Sir,

Donno ihere to voice this thus o hope voicing here will bring attention Women and igain some support from the government.

it’s pertaining to thensafety at MRT stations…as you may be aware, here is yet another incident at the MRT st Hot ation where a woman fell ontothe tracks after faintini. Can the government urge SMRT to insta Women l safety gates to prevent such incidents_from happening? Like thehco ments from one of the readers in ST Forum today, can’t SMRT absorp the cost of gate installation or the government providing some funding support on this?

so far, in many other countries like hk, safety gates are installedc and the Hot se are provided as part of the transportation f companies’ service… if singapore wants to provide a best in clas transport system…shouldn’t the bestin class transport syst also inc-lude safety ameasures at no expense on the commuters?

h Women e you can help bring this to the attention of the appropriate bodies and hope to see the safety gates installed at our MRT stations soon…thanks.

Ser Luck reply :  Zac, thank you for bringing this up.  Yes, I read the news and am also very concerned.  Believed there was consideration by the Ministry.  But I would follow up on this point you have brought up.  Do keep your feedback coming.

  3. Zac Says:

hi sir, thanks for your swift response..didn’t think you’d reply so soon…thanks again and look forward to the safety measures being put in place in 2007…that’s one of my NY wishes too….

  4. El Says:

Safety gates can be one way. Instead of a barrier, we can have a sensor.

I am wondering whether there can be an activation sensor so that once someone falls or lands on the tracks, the train will be programmed to stop.

I wonder if this will be more effective than a safety barrier.

  5. Easternwind Says:

Hhaahahah u wana talked abt flood. Compare with S’pore and M’sia or shall I be more precise, comare between PAP & UMNO. U saw for urslef on TV. There r media reports saying if u wana be rescued pay 1st OMG!!!

  6. Easternwind Says:

    Mr Teo,

In 59 before GE LKY utter these brave words too “We would rather lose this election than win it on fake promises”

Indeed these r the big words of LKY. But LKY is destined to do big anyway.

Wonder who on earth dared to say such things before an electorate, esp so before winning power.
